"I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week" is a song by American recording artist Mandy Moore from her sixth studio album, Amanda Leigh. It was released on June 15, 2009 by Storefront Records as the lead single of the album.[1][2] The song was written by Moore and Mike Viola. Its tongue in cheek lyrics are based on a girl who is holding a boy's love, which she says she could break his heart any day of the week.

The music video was directed by Ghost Town Media, who worked with Moore for the first time. The story line shows Moore in a Dōjō academy. With respect to the charts, "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week" is another commercial failure for Moore, it only managed to debut on the Billboard Pop 100, N.90 position. As of July 2012, "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week" has sold 105,000 paid digital downloads in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.[3] The song also peaked at number 14 in Ukraine on June 14, 2009 [4]

Release and promotion

Music video

The music video premiered on Monday, April 20, 2009, on Yahoo! Music.[10] Directed by Ghost Town Media, the video shows a blasé Moore at a dojo watching a group of men and women practicing karate and mixed martial arts moves. In the end of the video, the instructor (played by Chuck Liddell) comes up to her. She flashes her dress, kicks him in the groin and walks out, leaving him in agony as the class claps and cheers. The music video was released on to iTunes on May 5, 2009, three weeks after it premiered on Yahoo! Music, but has not been added to her YouTube Vevo channel yet.

Reception

Billboard magazine said that "Mandy Moore has been a recording artist for 10 years and continues churning out mature, yet age-appropriate songs. The tongue-in-cheek single "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week" is a feel-good pop song with restrained production, refreshingly showcasing the melody and Moore's alluring vocals. She recorded her sixth studio album, "Amanda Leigh" (the title is the singer's birth name), with Boston producer Mike Viola, who tapped into a hand-clapped rhythm and funky clavinet sounds, resulting in a light and bubbly sound for the season."
