Polegar was a Brazilian boyband launched in 1989 by Promoart company, owned by Gugu Liberato.

History

The Polegar Group marked time in the late 1980s and early 1990s and had attendance record in almost all the cities in Brazil and several countries in South America and is considered by many a musical phenomenon of the season. Launched in 1989, on the first album, the band released songs like "Dá Pra Mim", which gave the group their first gold and platinum record with more than five hundred thousand copies sold. Other successes came next, as "Ando Falando Sozinho" and "Sou Como Sou."

In 1990, with the release of second album, the success of "Ela Não Liga" brought the group back to the gold and platinum album, surpassing the 250,000 copies sold. In the same year, Polegar debuted in theaters participating in the film Uma Escola Atrapalhada with Gugu Liberato, Angelica, Supla, Os Trapalhões, etc., and having the Soundtrack song "Sou Como Sou," reaching more than three hundred thousand copies sold.

In 1991, "Quero Mais" was among the songs most played in Brazil, giving to the group a gold record surpassing the bandage one hundred thousand copies. In recorded three albums, Polegar won the mark of more than one million copies sold. In 1994, after the departure of members, the quartet with his first training disbanded and the anonymity of others in the group ended its activities in 1997. With the outcome of the first formation of the group, its members followed many different paths.

In 2004, taking advantage of the revival of the 80s, the group returned to the activities, with three members of the original line-up: Alex, Alan and Ricardo (this time playing guitar). The group released an independent album, which was sold only in Lojas 775. After participation in programs such as Superpop and Pânico na TV, the band again would end the activities.

Currently

The guitarist and vocalist Denis, graduated from law school, is now delegated of the Civil Police in Concord, inland city of Santa Catarina,[2] also acting in the role of teacher in institution of higher education, UNIDAVI; the keyboardist Alan Frank graduated in Medicine and specialized in Ophthalmology, having also worked in the Air Force; the singer and bassist Alex Gill recorded a solo album, in addition to becoming a music producer and composer; the former guitarist Rafael Ilha was dedicated in addiction recovery in a clinic of chemical drug dependent patients and now works in program production A Tarde É Sua, with Sonia Abrão: the guitarist Marcelo graduated from law school and works in the area. Ricardo Costa former drummer graduated in a law degree in addition to having directed a radio station in São Paulo. With 3 years of road experience, Alan, Alex and Ricardo met in 2004 with his friend Fernando Kitagawa, a professor of drums and music; also music producer who accompanied all the band's success in their career. Again in 2005 the band goes out of business and each member back to follow their parallel careers. However the members Alex Gill and Fernando Kitagawa still together today composing and producing; in addition to presenting singing and playing at events throughout Brazil.

In 2014, it was announced a group meeting for the DVD recording to celebrate the 25 years of the band, with the 1990 quintet formation.[3]
