"Thinking 'Bout You" is a song by English singer Dua Lipa for her self-titled debut studio album (2017), serving as the ninth track of the album. It was released by Warner Bros. Records on 6 January 2017 as the second promotional single from the album.

Composition

Musically, "Thinking 'Bout You" is an acoustic pop and R&B ballad that contains elements of blues and soul.[1][2][3] The song is composed in 4

time
and the key of E minor, with a tempo of 91 beats per minute that has an "acoustic groove" feel.[4][5] The song's intro follows a Cmaj7-Bm7-Am7-Bm7-E5 sequence and is accompanied by a plucked acoustic guitar.[6][3][4] Lipa's vocals are raspy and bluesy spanning from E3 to D5.[4][3][6] Sarah Grant of Rolling Stone called it a "lovelorn song"[6] while Much called it "a poignant serenade about longing."[3] Ben Hogwood of musicOMH wrote that the song "takes a step back, painting a picture of loss, but feels unfinished despite its sentiments."[7] Jamie Milton of NME wrote that the song "starts as an acoustic slow burner, but soon reveals itself to be a sharp-witted firecracker."[8]

Critical reception

Writing for Rolling Stone, Sarah Grant wrote that the song "reveals a deeper side to [Lipa's] songwriting".[6] Much said that the song "shows [Lipa's] versatility".[3]

Music video

The song's official music video was directed by Jake Jelicich and released on 22 February 2017.[9] The split screen video sees Lipa wearing a black hoodie, lying in a bed before sitting up and hiding behind some curtains.[10] The first screen show's close-ups of Lipa's body while the second show's her full body.[10] The video was compared to Requiem for a Dream, directed by Darren Aronofsky.[11]

Live performances

The song was included on the setlists of the Hotter Than Hell Tour, US and Europe Tour and The Self-Titled Tour.
