Gheorghe "Gigi" Staicu (born 18 December 1935) is a Romanian former professional footballer and manager. As a footballer, Staicu played for Steaua București and was considered the first player that was grew up only by "the red and blues".[1][2] After retirement, Staicu started his manager career and was the manager of many Divizia A clubs, among them: Olimpia Satu Mare, Bihor Oradea, Universitatea Cluj or UM Timișoara.[1] Staicu was also the assistant coach of Romania, in the spell of Ștefan Kovacs and was for years the manager of the olympic team.[3]

In 2007, Staicu retired from football and since 2012 he is hospitalized in an asylum for the elderly.[1] It seems, according to sources, that he would suffer from Alzheimer's disease.[4]
