Leva Patel (or Leuva Patel or Leuva Patidar) is a caste or community in India. They claim mythical descent from Lav, the son of Ram,[1][2] They make varying claims to Kshatriya and Vaishya varna status.[3]

Origin and Migration

According to the popular myth, it is believed that the Leva Patels of the Kheda district of Gujarat were originally the migrants from Punjab.[4] In the 19th and 20th centuries, many Leva Patels immigrated to other countries, like Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Within India, they migrated from Gujarat to other states, like Odisha, Rajasthan Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.[4]
