Jonathan James Gilbert is an Australian diplomat and senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He has been Australia’s Ambassador to Kuwait since 2017.[1]

Early life and education

He was born in Sydney and attended Newington College from Year 3 in 1986 until completing his HSC in 1995. Gilbert holds a Master of International Studies and a Bachelor of Economics (Social Sciences) from the University of Sydney.[2]

Career

Before Gilbert's appointment as Ambassador to Kuwait He was Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Baghdad. In Canberra, he has served as Team Leader, Staffing Operations Section; Assistant Director, India Political Section; and Assistant Director, Strategic and Defence Policy Section. He previously served overseas as First Secretary at the Australian Embassy, Manila.[3]
