Mary Katharine Mumford, 15th Lady Herries of Terregles, DCVO (née Fitzalan-Howard; 14 August 1940 – 7 April 2017), was a Scottish peeress and the second of the four daughters of the 16th Duke of Norfolk (and 13th Lord Herries of Terregles) by his wife The Hon Lavinia Strutt.[1]
Honours
Lady Herries (previously known as the Lady Mary Mumford) served as a Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Alexandra since 1964. She was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1982 and elevated to Dame Commander of the same Order in 1995.[2]
Family
After her elder sister, Anne Cowdrey, 14th Lady Herries of Terregles, died in 2014 without issue, she succeeded as the 15th holder of the ancient noble title.[1] On her death, her youngest sister, Jane, Marchioness of Lothian, wife of the Conservative politician Michael Kerr, 13th Marquess of Lothian, known as Michael Ancram, succeeded as the 16th Lady Herries of Terregles.
Marriage and death
In 1986, she married Group Captain Anthony Mumford, CVO, OBE, who died in 2006. Mumford died at home on 7 April 2017.[3] She was 76.
