Nehru Gram Bharati (Deemed to be University), community known as Nehru Gram Bharti University or NGB University is a research-based Deem to be University in the city of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh state of India. The university was established on 26 July 1962 by the late Jawahar Lal Nehru. All its admissions and courses are carried out in the name of Nehru Gram Bharati University, Allahabad.[1]

Mission statement

The institute's mission is to be a socially global and an integrated university which would provide a wide range of courses within the local boundaries. Furthermore, the university firmly believes in the words of Nehruji that:

"A University stands for humanism, tolerance, reason, the adventure of ideas & for the search of truth"[2]

Accreditation and affiliations

The Nehru Gram Bharati University is a society which is registered under the societies Registration Act. 1860 with Reg. No. 1117/2006-2007 dated 02/01/2007. It has also been evaluated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has been accredited with B+ grade by University Grants Commission (India) (UGC).[3][4]

History

The University was established by the then Prime Minister of India, the late Jawahar Lal Nehru at his village Dubawal located near Jamunipur-Kotwa of his Parliamentary constituency. Nehru addressed the gathering on the day of the conventional occasion and emphasized the need to foster the technical, vocational and professional education thus by establishing an institute. Nehru further promised his electorate to not send the children of farmers to the other big cities to pursue higher education, instead they would get the quality education and would be better trained within the rural institute at Nehru Gram Bharati University which was setup in a village at that time and also that such students after finishing their education would get better employment opportunities in their own village.[5]

Prof. P.N. Pandey serves as the current Vice-chancellor and Prof. J.N. Mishra as the current chancellor of the University.[6]
