Phoolon Ki Sej (transl. Bed of Flowers) is a 1964 Indian Hindi-language social film written and directed by Inder Raj Anand. The film stars Vyjayanthimala, Ashok Kumar and Manoj Kumar with Nirupa Roy, Lalita Pawar, Mehmood, Shubha Khote, Mukri and Kanhaiyalal in supporting roles. The music by Adi Narayana Rao was one of the plus points of this film. The song "Aa bhi ja rasiya" is very melodious. This movie was based on Gulshan Nanda's famous novel of the same name. The film was produced by South Indian actress Anjali Devi and her husband P. Adinarayana Rao, with their production company, Anjali Pictures. Phoolon Ki Sej is about a love between Nirmal Verma and Karuna.

Plot

Nirmal Verma(Manoj Kumar) and Karuna (Vjyanthi Mala)are attracted to each other, while the former is touring that part of the country alongwith friend Girdhari (Mehmood). They get very intimate, during a rainy misadventure .he promises to return, and even leaves his address with her, but she misplaces it.She gets pregnant and leaves in search of Nirmall at Hyderabad.Didi(Lalita pawar) saves her from committing suicide and later Karuna delivers a son Suraj (master Babloo). Both do meet after 5 years, and after formal introductions - get married; but Didi doesn't allow Karuna to disclose about the truth about the child, she re-locates to live with him and his doctor brother,Dr Verma (Ashok Kumar) and Bhabhi, Janki(Nirupa Roy) .She visits her son whenever possible at Didi's place. Girdhari son of Banwari (Kanaiyalal) is in love with Missy (Shobha Khote) daughter of Jacket (Mukri). Both get married against their parents wishes and so are kept separate from each other,but they meet secretively.Dr Verma adopts Suraj when Karuna and Nirmal have gone for vacation s, Karuna is shocked to find her son Suraj at home and can't hide here motherly emotions..Nirmal comes to know the truth of Karuna from Girdhari who had seen Karuna at Dr. Verma hospital for abortion earlier to her marriage and so he leaves her then to be clarified by her Karuna s friend(Anjali Devi). Karuna finally divulges the truth to the family when Suraj gets very sick and calls for his mother. Nirmal also comes back and accepts his fault and the whole family reunites.

Box office

At the end of its theatrical run, Phoolon Ki Sej grossed around 90,00,000 with a net of 45,00,000, thus becoming the eighteenth highest grossing film of 1964, with a verdict of average success at Box Office India.[1] According to Ibosnetwork.com, the film had grossed at about 45,00,000 and its adjusted to inflation gross is about 68.42 crore (US$8.2 million) (2010).[2]
