The Yeoheung Min clan (Korean: 여흥 민씨; Hanja: 驪興 閔氏) is a Korean clan that traces its origin (Bon-gwan) to Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province. The 2000 Korean Census counted 142,572 members of the Yeoheung Min clan. Yeoheung Min's founding ancestor was Min Ching do, who settled down in Goryeo after coming to the country as an emissary from the Song dynasty of China. Min Chingdo was said to be a descendant of Min Sun, a major disciple of Confucius.
Yeoheung Mins have produced 242 senior government officials and 4 queens throughout Joseon dynasty, including Queen Wongyeong (queen consort of King Taejong of Joseon and the mother of King Sejong the Great) and Queen Inhyeon (queen consort of King Sukjong of Joseon).[1][2]
Empress Myeongseong was a member of the clan. She is a controversial figure, who is admired for her political crafts and her determination to resist Japanese influence at the end of Joseon dynasty, but also condemned for exacerbating the pervasive corruption of Joseon dynasty by appointing her fellow Yeoheung Mins to important positions within the government.
