Ostereo is a British-based record label, publisher, influencer, and marketing company using technology to promote streams and video views for its artists. The label was founded in April 2016 by Howard Murphy.
History
In 2012, Blackpool, British-born Howard Murphy founded Amurco, a music sync and licensing company working with brands including Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, and IKEA. Murphy launched Ostereo in Manchester in 2016. It's business model would follow that of a traditional record label while also utilizing technology of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and user-generated content platforms like YouTube along with digital music streaming services including Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer.[1]
Ostereo is located at The Landing at MediaCityUK, a hub for high-growth technology.[1]
Artists
As of 2017, Ostereo had a roster of 20 artists from across the globe.[2] The label and their artists earn their income from music streaming royalties, YouTube ad revenue, live performances, merchandise and other technological activities.[citation needed] In its first year, Ostereo was able to place its artists in internationally based digital service providers that received 400 million music streams and over 1 billion YouTube views.[2]
With the peer-to-peer approach, Ostereo has released music by Korean pop sensation J.Fla, who has amassed over 100 million video views per month, and over 10.6 Million subscribers to her YouTube channel.[2][3] She has charted in Singapore and Taiwan, Korea and China without ever having released a single.[4]
Ostereo released Dutch singer-songwriter Nina June's album, Bon Voyage in March 2018.[5] Prior to that, the track "For Love" received over four million Spotify listens,[6] and along with "When We Fall" was used in Dutch, Belgian and American films and television programs.[7] Jimmy Choo, LK Bennett, Hobbs and Farrow & Ball added "Til Dawn" to their global in-store playlists.[8]
Joel Corry established his DJ profile on MTV's Geordie Shore and his career as a body building competitor at body building performances at WBFF, UKBFF, Pure Elite and Miami Pro events.[9] He has completed a club tour of the United Kingdom.[10] His Ostereo single, "Sunlight" was released in 2017.[11] Joel has just begun a weekly radio show on the UK dance station Kiss FM.[12]
Distribution
Since 2018, Ostereo is a music distributor and is licensed through Merlin, a global digital rights agency, to distribute through digital signal processors (DSPs) including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Deezer, Google Play, and others internationally.[citation needed] The label has a number of direct distribution deals in new markets including China, where its artists are already achieving 26 million monthly streams on NetEase, one of the country's largest streaming platforms.[13]
