WMPC (1230 AM) is a radio station licensed to Lapeer, Michigan that broadcasts a Religious format, broadcasting a mix of inspirational music and God honoring programs. It first began broadcasting on December 6, 1926 and is the oldest continuously operating Christian radio station in the United States.[1] WMPC is owned and operated by the Calvary Bible Church of Lapeer, Michigan. It is also simulcast on W295CT (106.9 FM)
History
The station began broadcasting on December 6, 1926 from a homemade transmitter in the Methodist Protestant Church. The church later changed its name to the Calvary Bible Church. It has only had four managers over the years; Rev. Frank S. Hemingway, Rev. Arnold Bracy, Bob Baldwin, and the current manager, Ed LeVoir.
WMPC is non-commercial and holds a Sharathon twice a year to raise the revenue needed to continue broadcasting.
