Anirudh Devgan, Ph.D is a computer scientist and business executive, currently the President of Cadence Design Systems in San Jose, California. Anirudh oversees all of Cadence’s EDA and system business groups and products with >$2B yearly revenue. Prior to joining Cadence in 2012, Anirudh Devgan spent seven years at Magma Design Automation as General Manager and Corporate Vice President of Magma’s Custom Design Business Unit, leading the development and introduction of several successful products. Prior to his tenure at Magma, he spent 12 years at IBM in various product and research division positions, where he received numerous awards including the IBM Corporate Award and IBM Outstanding Innovation Award. Devgan was named IEEE Fellow in 2006. He has published numerous research papers, has received Best Paper Awards from both ICCAD and DAC conferences, and holds 27 U.S. patents. Devgan received a Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Biography

Anirudh was born in New Delhi, India on the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi campus where his father was a professor of mathematics and statistics. He attended Delhi Public School, RK Puram, and obtained his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He immigrated to the United States in 1990 and received a Masters and Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1991 and 1993, respectively.[1][failed verification] Currently, he resides in Silicon Valley with his wife and two kids.

Career

Anirudh worked at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) for 12 years in several management and research positions at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, IBM Server Division, IBM Microelectronics Division, and IBM Austin Research Lab, where he received several awards. He then worked for Magma Design Automation, where he was General Manager and Corporate Vice President of the Custom Design Business Unit. Anirudh currently serves as President of Cadence Design Systems, promoted in 2017 after running several divisions as their Executive Vice President and General Manager.

Speaking and news engagements

In addition to Cadence, he annually speaks and serves at numerous technical conferences for electronic design automation (EDA) and electrical engineering around the world such as DAC, ICCAD, ASP-DAC, VLSI Design and ISQED. At IBM, he was the recipient of the 1999 IBM Outstanding Research Accomplishment Award and IBM Outstanding Innovation Award, the 2000 IBM Corporate Award, the IBM Microelectronics Division's Excellence Award in 2001. He has also received the IEEE William J. Macalla Best Paper Award in 2003, the International Conference on Computer Aided Design in 2003, and Design Automation Conference's Best Paper Award in 2005.
