Shyama Charan Shukla (27 February 1925 – 14 February 2007)[1] was a veteran Indian National Congress leader and served three times as Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh.

He was a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative assembly from Rajim from year 1957 and later for years 1962, 1967,1972, 1990, 1993 and 1998.[2]

Shukla served as the 7th Chief minister of the Madhya Pradesh on three separate occasions. Firstly from 26 March 1969 to 28 January 1972 then from 23 December 1975 to 29 April 1977 and finally from 9 December 1989 to 4 March 1990.[1][2]

He was Member of Parliament from Mahasamund in 1999.[2]

Family

He is the son of Madhya Pradesh’s first Chief minister, Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla. Vidya Charan Shukla was his younger brother. The Shukla brothers were a dominant political force in undivided Madhya Pradesh for almost four decades.

His son, Amitesh Shukla, served as Rural Development Minister in the Chhattisgarh government under Ajit Jogi and is currently serving in the state assembly of Chhattisgarh from Rajim.[2]

Memorials

The Post department of India issued a postage stamp depicting his photo in 2012 as a memorial to him.
