Background
Le Songe d'une nuit d'été is an early work of video art. France at that time the most successful TV show director Jean-Christophe Averty let his actors, mostly internationally known movie stars like Claude Jade, Christine Delaroche, Jean-Claude Drouot and Marie Versini, in front of a blue screen play and let the Athenian forest and the palace arise in a mixture of frescoes and hypnotic color games. It also change the sizes of the players that migrate for example in front of the shot Closeup their partner or wish to exclude themselves from paintings of vases. Averty attracted from all former trick technical possibilities.
In troop of artisans among others acting the comedian duo Michel Modo and Guy Grosso, known as Berlicot and Tricart from the The Troops of St. Tropez-films with Louis de Funes.
Critics
Maurice Clavel from the Nouvel Observateur the work celebrated as perfectly harmonious and aesthetic science and compared the images with noise of a galaxy. At another miracle of the movie he counted the rapid presentation of the actress Claude Jade as Helena. Le Monde says the TV movie for "chef d'oeuvre" and France Soir called an epoch-date and a revolution in the history of the Directing in TV Movies. "Averty, the rather too much than too little would accuse of ideas, created a colorful phantasmagoria, failing for the categories like arts, crafts or kitsch." (critics for German TV Release)
