Abner made his Campeonato Brasileiro Série A debut for Coritiba in a 2–2 draw with Goiás in September 2013. On 16 July 2014, it was announced that, despite long standing interest from Italian giants Roma, Abner had signed for Real Madrid Castilla.
Abner played for the Brazil national under-17 football team at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. However, he suffered a knee injury in a group stage match that kept him out of the remainder of the tournament.
