His last airdate will be June 24. The role was recast with Michael Muhney, who will debut on June 25, 2009.[3]
Character
Adam Newman grew up as Victor Adam Wilson (due to stepfather Cliff Wilson, whom he believed was his biological father at one time) is the son of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and his late former wife, Hope Adams (Signy Coleman). Adam was raised by his mother and didn't even realize Victor was his father, due to her not wanting him to be raised with the Newman influences. When Adam was 27, Hope discovered that she had terminal pancreatic cancer. With both Victor and Adam by her bedside, Hope told Adam that Victor was his father. Adam had always believed that Cliff Wilson was his father and didn't want to believe that Victor could just abandon his child for his whole life. His mother's last wish was for them to be reconnected before she passed away with Adam and Victor at her bedside.
After her passing, Victor gave Adam an offer to come back to Genoa City with him and work at Newman Enterprises. Adam eventually decided to quit his job in New York and headed to Genoa City to work at Newman with Victor. At his first club visit, he met Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) (unaware that she was his sister-in-law, who also worked at Newman) and decided to get to know her better, though he backed down after she showed him her wedding ring, and he eventually dropped the possibility of dating her.
Adam had an awkward situation with Victor's daughter Victoria (Amelia Heinle). They started fighting over the Beauty line that Victoria has created at Newman. After returning from a brief trip to New York, he had a brief relationship with Skye Lockhart (Laura Stone), his Harvard classmate. Victoria, fed up with Victor's constant attention to Adam and her change of position to fit Adam's alleged needs, quit the company, and Victor asked Adam to move into Victoria's office.
At the gym, when they were representing opposing companies in a patent lawsuit, he met Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom), with whom he immediately had sexual chemistry with, which quickly grew into a deeper relationship. Adam decided to take his rightful last name Newman and became so power hungry that he took over the ranch and the company during the time that Victor was presumed dead. The family didn't agree with his actions, but nothing could stop him. He fired most of the family from the company including Victor's long-time employee Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) and reinstated the one man that Victor never wanted to see again, Brad Carlton (Don Diamont). Victor returned, shocked at all the changes that have happened and fired him.
As a form of revenge, Adam worked on a plot with Victor's enemy Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) that involved a forged diary in Victor's words describing the details of which he murdered Walter Palin, the man who killed Sabrina, Victor's wife at the time. Adam was later arrested by his fiance Heather for forging the diary and while behind bars with Victor he broke down and told him all he wanted was to be Victor's son and so Victor told him to prove he was a Newman by being strong. Victor visited Adam on the anniversary of Hope's death when Adam angrily confronted him, leaving Victor satisfied with the change in Adam.
Adam has since been slowly losing his eyesight. Heather notices this first and goes to Victor. Though Victor is reluctant to believe Adam at first because he thinks it could be a con, he realizes that Adam is telling the truth. He writes Adam a letter telling him that he will always be his son. Adam tries to read it upside down and Victor turns it correctly for him to read. Victor and his fiance, Ashley, visit Adam after he is brutally beaten by an inmate. Adam tells Victor that he is the reason it happened; that because he was Victor Newman's son he was beaten. Victor finally agrees to get the charges dropped and Adam out of prison only if he agrees to live at the ranch in Victor's custody and toe the line. Adam agrees. He has also since reunited with Heather.
Ashley Abbott, Victor's current girlfriend, began hearing a baby crying on the Newman ranch in April 2009. Soon after, it appeared that someone was gaslighting her. Victor's late wife Sabrina's dress (the one she wore the night of her death) was laid out for Ashley to wear, her diary was placed in the living room of the ranch for Ashley to find and a sonogram of the baby Sabrina was going to have was sent to the ranch. Adam seemed concerned for Ashley and quickly the housekeeper Estella was blamed for the hideous things going on. Eventually, Adam was revealed to viewers as the one behind the scheme. He used to torment a pregnant Ashley, though his motives for doing so remain unknown.
On June 5th, Adam dressed up like the late Sabrina, a frightened Ashley tumbles down the stairs of the Newman ranch and is knocked unconscious. Unfortunately Ashley miscarries the baby. On June 8th, Adam attempts to cover up the incident by placing a knocked-out Ashley in her bed and burning her bloody nightgown. As Ashley wakes up screaming, Nikki lets herself into the house. Adam convinces a suspicious Ashley that she just had a bad dream.
