Al Markhiya is a neighborhood of Doha, Qatar. A number of important cultural and sports institutions are based in Al Markhiya including Al-Markhiya Sports Club and Al Markhiya Art Gallery, located in an old souk.
History
In 1917, Al Markhiya was described as a Bedouin camping ground with a 18-feet deep masonry well and a garden. The garden, which was established by former emir Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, was enclosed by a wall and was used for date palm cultivation.[1]
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, the settlement comprised 1009 housing units[2] and 200 establishments.[3] There were 5,197 people living in the settlement, of which 56% were male and 44% were female. Out of the 5,179 inhabitants, 69% were 20 years of age or older and 31% were under the age of 20. The literacy rate stood at 97.2%.[4]
Employed persons made up 53% of the total population. Females accounted for 30% of the working population, while males accounted for 70% of the working population.[4]

Al Markhiya Centre
Al Markheya centre is a project that is build by Al Emadi Real Estate located is Al Markheya area. The project spans across 55,000 square metres and will have Italian themed architecture, and will include:
- International Library
- World class Restaurants which will offer a selection of international cuisines and Coffee Shops
- Ladies SPA Club.
- Inter-learning centre for children under British Management.
- Promenades along the lake.
- Landscaping and artificial lake stretches over 5,000 square metres.
