Alexander Leslie, 5th Earl of Leven

Alexander Melville (also Alexander Leslie), 5th Earl of Leven (28 May 1695[1] – 2 September 1754) was the son of David Melville, 3rd Earl of Leven.[2]
A Lord of Session 1734-54; Grand Master of Scottish Freemasons 1741-42 ; High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland 1741-53; a Representative Peer for Scotland 1747-54; a Lord of Police 1754
Family
On 23 February 1721,[3] he married Mary Erskine and they had one child:
- David Melville, 6th Earl of Leven (1722–1802)[4]
Mary died in 1723, and on 13 March 1726,[5] he married Elizabeth Monypenny. They had four children:
- Lady Mary Melville[6] (also Lady Mary Leslie who became a novelist, b. 8 May 1736[7])
- General Alexander Leslie (1731–1794)
- Lady Anne Melville (d. 1779)
- Lady Elizabeth Melville (b. 1737, d. 1788), who married John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun[8][9]
