The American International School in Abu Dhabi was founded in the UAE's capital city in 1995 to serve the needs of the local and expatriate residents of Abu Dhabi who want their children to pursue both American and International Baccalaureate curricula. AISA was the first school in Abu Dhabi to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and IB Primary Years Program (IBPYP). The school is coeducational in elementary and gender-segregated in secondary.

Campus

The school is located on the island of Abu Dhabi city. The school facilities include a library, art rooms, computer labs, swimming and wading pools and six science labs. AISA has two gymnasiums, outdoor basketball courts and a grass soccer field.

The campus accommodates two schools. The Elementary School serves 700 students and the High School, which serves 650. The school is coeducational in elementary and gender-segregated in secondary.

Accreditation

AISA is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools,[1] the Council of International Schools, and the UAE Ministry of Education. It is authorized by the IB to offer the Primary a Years and Diploma Programs. AISA is an associate member of both the Near East South Asian Association of Overseas Schools (NESA) as well as the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).

Curriculum

The American International School in Abu Dhabi serves the needs of an international student body by offering an American high school diploma program and the International Baccalaureate program. Students in Kindergarten to grade 5 follow the US Curriculum within the IB Primary Years Program (IBPYP). In grades 6-9, students continue to follow the American curriculum. High school students can choose between the US high school diploma, or the IB Diploma Program.

82 nationalities are represented in the school in 2014-15. One in three students is Emirati.

The school facilities include a library, swimming and wading pools, two gymnasiums, science labs, art and drama rooms, and a grass soccer pitch.

Activities

Sports at American International School in Abu Dhabi

AISA is a member of two leagues, the local UAE leagues that is composed of the strongest international schools in the country called Emirates Athletics Conference (EAC), and the international league that is participated by the schools from all over the MENA region which is the OASIS Activities Conference (OAC).[2] Among the sports offered at AISA are basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, swimming, track and field, tennis, and softball (for the girls). There are also Robotic clubs hosted by Mr. Faulkenberry, a great I.T teacher.


AISA also offers variety of afterschool activities on each school levels, Elementary after school activities can choose from indoor hockey, creating with MacBook Pro, bowling, touch rugby, Mad Science, Youth Sailing Clubs, Ballet, swimming lessons and Kumon Math.
