One of the youngest of the higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) (Azerbaijani: Bakı Ali Neft Məktəbi was established as a subsidiary of SOCAR under the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated 29 November 2011.

Education process is based on strong partnership relations with Heriot-Watt University, UK.

Campuses

Baku Higher Oil School is located in the downtown of Baku, White City.

New campus at Bibiheybat (Bibiheybət) area will also be a platform for education activity and knowledge transfer, focusing on delivering the same exceptionally high quality education and cutting edge research. It will be build during 1–2 years.

Heriot-Watt University Partnership

Parthership agreement between BHOS and Heriot-Watt University

Baku Higher Oil School students have already been selected to start education for three specialties - Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Process Automation Engineering. The education on Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering are conducted on Heriot Watt University’s programs and with participation of its specialists. Following the education results the students will get diplomas of BHOS and Heriot-Watt University.

Practical experience

Baku Higher Oil School is to ensure acquiring by students the practical experience along with theoretical knowledge. To this end, the students undertake an internship in different enterprises of SOCAR. BHOS is supplied with the most modern training facilities.

At present, in BHOS training of specialists according to the training program of Heriot-Watt University on the bachelor level is conducted. Within a first year all students learn “English language” and “Computer and Information and Communication Technologies” subjects at a high level.

Admission

All students passed exams conducted by the State Students Admission Commission with over 600 grades. According to the Decrees of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic, Ilham Aliyev dated 15 September 2012 and September, 2013, in last two academic years among 204 persons having highest results at the admission exams 26 students of Baku Higher Oil School (12%) were awarded the Presidential Scholarship. Education is hold in English language and in accordance with the requirements of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System.

Student Services

The Academic Registry can help with any aspect of the enrolment, examinations and graduation processes including examination timetables, off-campus examination arrangements, assessment results letters, re-sit examinations, degree certificates, the European Diploma supplement, appeals to Senate, formal complaints, student discipline, and accreditation of prior learning.

The Academic Registry also provides advice and assistance on semester dates, certification of student status, academic transcripts, programme transfers, replacement ID cards, appeals for suspension of studies and further assessment opportunities.

Student Senate

To ensure that all students are represented, the BHOS has developed a forum for discussing student issues and ideas. Students who participate in extra-curricular activities in the areas of Student Representation and School sports and social clubs/societies may be elected to become a member of Student Senate.

Information Technology

New students will be registered for IT facilities and receive a username and password as part of the enrollment process. This unique login will be used for accessing Heriot Watt Email & VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) system.

The VLE is known as VISION (Virtual Student Information Organisation Network) and can be accessed at Heriot-Watt University website. Students are provided with a unique username and password

Access to Wireless network is also provided to students by issuing WiFi login details.

The Higher School Library offers access to a range of study materials and computer facilities, as well as experienced professionals who can guide students to the right sources of information.

In addition to School’s collection of books and journals, students are able to access and download a range of electronic journals and to search databases for articles, conference papers, and other materials from Heriot-Watt University Library website. Library has been closely working with Computer and ICT department. BHOS library offers a Photocopy/Printing/Scanning facilities and services on campus free of charge.

Sport & Social Clubs

Students have access to a wide range of sports and social clubs when they become enrolled at the School.
