Bayonet Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County, Florida, United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 23,577.

Geography

Bayonet Point is located at 28°19′22″N 82°41′2″W / 28.32278°N 82.68389°W / 28.32278; -82.68389 (28.322903, -82.683957).[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.7 square miles (15 km2), of which 5.6 square miles (15 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (1.41%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 23,577 people, 11,314 households, and 6,878 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 4,207.2 people per square mile (1,625.6/km²). There were 12,628 housing units at an average density of 2,253.4/sq mi (870.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.84% White, 0.67% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.62% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.50% of the population.

There were 11,314 households out of which 15.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 34.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 25.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.03 and the average family size was 2.55.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 14.9% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 18.0% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 43.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 59 years. For every 100 females, there were 83.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $28,920, and the median income for a family was $34,958. Males had a median income of $27,210 versus $21,727 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,904. About 8.1% of families and 11.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.3% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.
