Biswas

Biswas (pronounced in Bengali as "bish-shash") is a surname commonly used by the Bengali community. The surname was an honorary title bestowed on persons who were relied upon for the work of accounts, receipts and expenditure.[1][2] This is one of the secular title of India. Among Bengali Hindus, the surname is associated mainly with Baidya, Kayasthas,[3][4] Mahishya[5] and Scheduled Castes[6] as well. The surname is also even found among some Brahmin, Brahma, Buddhist[7] Muslim and Christian Bengalis.[8] In Bengali, Biswas means faith or trust.[9]
