To be announced

Bound for Glory (2011) is a forthcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), that will take place on October 16, 2011 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[2] It will be the seventh annual event under the Bound for Glory chronology. Bound For Glory is considered to be the premiere event of the year for the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling company.

Production

Background

Bound for Glory will feature professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers were portrayed as either villains or heroes or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate into a wrestling match or series of matches.[3]

It was announced on July 13, 2011 that the location for this year's annual Bound for Glory would be revealed the following day on ESPN.com on Page 2.[4] The next day, Sting, in his interview with ESPN SportsCenter anchor Robert Flores, declared that the event would emanate from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center on October 16, 2011. Tickets for the event commenced sale on July 22, 2011.[5]

Storylines

During June, the implementation of a 3-month long points system tournament referred to as the "Bound for Glory Series" became the focal point in determining a number one contender for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Bound for Glory out of 12 top contenders. According to the rules, the wrestlers that accumulate the most points from every match held on Impact Wrestling, house shows, and on pay per views, the top 4 would face off in a Four Way match at No Surrender, where the winner would gain the opportunity to challenge for the championship at their biggest annual spectacle.[6] Points are issued based on the method of victories such as a pinfall, submission, countout, disqualification, and a draw. These results are also carefully documented on episodic broadcasts and on TNA's website. The points system operates as followed:

  • Pinfall victories: Rewards 7 points
  • Submission victories: Rewards 10 points
  • Countout victories: Rewards 5 points
  • Disqualifcation victories: Rewards 3 points, and the wrestler disqualified is deducted 10 points
  • Draws: Rewards 2 points

AJ Styles, Bully Ray, Gunner, Samoa Joe, The Pope, Scott Steiner, Crimson, Robert Roode, James Storm, Devon, Rob Van Dam, and Matt Morgan are all competing in the standings.[7] Matt Morgan was forced to scratch from the series due to a torn right pectoral muscle; since then, he has provided analytical commentary for select BFG Series matches on Impact and pay-per-view events, while Crimson and Devon were forced to scratch from the series due to ankle and back injuries sustained in an attack by Samoa Joe.
