Broker[1] (Korean: 브로커) is an upcoming South Korean drama film directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda starring Song Kang-ho, Bae Doona, Gang Dong-won, and IU. It marks Kore-eda's second film made outside Japan after The Truth (2019), his previous produced in France, and his second collaboration with Bae after Air Doll (2009). The film revolves around characters associated with baby boxes, which allow infants to be dropped off anonymously to be cared for by others.[4][5]

Production

The film was announced on August 26, 2020, with Song, Bae, and Gang set to star, under the working title reported to be Baby, Box, Broker or simply Broker.[4][5][7][8] Kore-eda began working on the film about five years prior, in order to work with Song and Gang, with whom he became acquainted at various festivals, and with Bae, who starred in Kore-eda's 2009 Air Doll.[5] In February 2021, IU was announced to have joined the cast.[9] In March 2021, it was reported that Lee Joo-young had joined the cast.[10] Principal photography took place from April 14 to June 22, 2021.[2]
