Untitled

The forthcoming second studio album by American recording artist Cassie will be released early 2012 by Bad Boy and Interscope Records, as the follow-up to her debut album, Cassie (2006).

Background

MTV News reported in June 2007 that contrary to rumors, Cassie had not been dropped from Bad Boy Records after releasing two singles from her self-titled debut album. Diddy said that she was in the studio working with producers Kanye West and Pharrell Williams on her second album.[2] It was also reported that Cassie was no longer collaborating with Ryan Leslie, who had produced the majority of her debut album.[3]

Additional production on the album came from Seven and LV, as well as Diddy himself.[4] Cassie said that she had also collaborated with Akon, The Neptunes, Danja, Eric Hudson, The Surf Club, SoundzFire and Rob Holiday, although she was not sure which tracks were going to be included on the album.[5] Commenting on the number of producers on the album, Cassie said that she "collaborated with a lot of different producers and a lot of different writers, which was an amazing opportunity for me, because on my first album, one producer [Ryan Leslie] straight through…which was fun, but it was nice to experience other people."[6] According to Bad Boy A&R Daniel 'Skid' Mitchell, rather than largely relying on the one songwriter-producer, the new album's mix of writers and producers, as well as her own co-write input, makes it a more personal record for her.[7]

In July 2006, Cassie announced that the album's title would be Electro Love. The idea was given to her by DJ Cassidy; Cassie explained by saying that "it's basically the sound of the album. It's not supposed to be taken so literal. 'Electro' could be like house and techno, but that's not what it is, but it's definitely a dance album. I just wanted it to be a reflection of that and the vibe of the music. It has that love song feel to it, but accompanied by that specific beat."[5] Cassie said that her new album will demonstrate more "independence"; there will be a "difference in vocals, a little bit more personality. And it's definitely a sensual album."[8]

After several delays, it was announced in December 2009 that Cassie had signed a new record deal with Interscope Records.[9] At the time of an October 2010 interview with HitQuarters, A&R Daniel 'Skid' Mitchell said that Cassie had already recorded around fifty songs for the album. Mitchell said that she was taking her time over the album because she is keen for "it to be something that people are going to respect."[7]

In late August 2011, Cassie announced that the album is complete, and that she recorded the last song for the album on August 26, 2011.[10]

On September 15, 2011, Cassie announced on 106 & Park, that the lead single "King of Hearts" will premiere by the end of October 2011 and the album will be released in early 2012.[11]

Concept

In July 2009, Cassie announced that the album's title would be Electro Love. It has that love song feel to it, but accompanied by that specific beat."[12] Cassie said that her new album will demonstrate more "independence"; there will be a "difference in vocals, a little bit more personality. And it's definitely a sensual album."[13]

Promotion

Three promotional songs were released but where scrapped for the final track listing of the album, "Official Girl", was released featuring rapper Lil Wayne on August 5, 2008, and was released to radio on September 16, 2008. It was not commercially successful, failing to chart on any of the major Billboard Charts in the US. Cassie recorded a new lead single with Diddy in 2009. The song, "Must Be Love", featured Diddy, and was sent to radio and released digitally on April 14, 2009. "Must Be Love" peaked on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart at number 42. The track "Let's Get Crazy" featuring Akon was released as the third single on September 1, 2009.

Then in January 2011, Cassie gave a brief interview with Rap-Up, from the set of Kevin Cossom's single "Baby I Like It" (featuring Diddy and Fabolous) where she present while Diddy filmed his scenes. She told the interviewer that was close to picking the album's first new single, which would premiere sometime in early 2011. She said the album will follow soon after.[14] Later, it was revealed in an interview on TeenVogue that the new single would be called Bougie S*%t.[15]

On July 13, 2011, a teaser video for a song entitled "Make You a Believer" made its way online.[16] The full version of the song was released on the first Bad Boy Records mixtape, entitled Bad Boy: The Preview.[17]
