Don't understand category

I don't understand this category, particularly when I look at the individuals listed. (Maybe this is because I've had a bottle of New Year's champagne, and I've landed here as a consequence of pursuing an answer to geeky conversation.) Isn't the notion of "humanism" a product of the Renaissance rediscovering classical texts? Not the classical authors themselves? Cynwolfe (talk) 02:16, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've no idea what a "Classical humanist" is supposed to be either. Possibly this category was created by a modern supporter of Epicureanism, who wanted to place the Epicureans in the tradition of Humanism. There are probably good grounds for putting this category up for deletion. Singinglemon (talk) 14:41, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
