[edit]Per Category:Albums by artist, "all single-artist album articles should have subcategories here, even if it's the only album the artist has recorded". This artist has two albums thus this category is allowable and follows the scheme established for all music artists. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 14:39, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- Per the main project guideline on categorization: "Categories should be useful for readers to find and navigate sets of related articles" (emphasis mine). Obviously a category containing only 1 article has little or no use for navigation, as there are no other articles in the "set". I'm not sure how/when the albums project decided on the above categorization scheme, but it doesn't appear to jibe with WP's stated purpose for categories. This band broke up 16 years ago and only ever released 2 albums. A category that is only going to ever contain 2 articles is not very useful. Category:Drive Like Jehu encompasses only 7 articles in total; further subcategorization isn't needed at that point. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:29, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- What do you mean "yours"? Artists' albums categories are subcategories within a larger scheme in the set of "Albums by artist", and in this case, "Rock albums by American artists", and "Post-hardcore albums", each of which is useful for readers to find and navigate through. Consensus for these categories is clearly established and always kept when brought to CFD. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 16:39, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- "Emphasis mine" means that I added italics to the word "sets" in the quote for emphasis...it is not italicized in the original source. As to the subcat point, just because there is a parent cat doesn't automatically mean there has to be a subcat. "Rock albums by American artists", etc. are not non-diffusing cats; articles can simply be placed in the parent category, rather than creating a subcategory for just 1 or 2 albums merely to fit a cat scheme. --IllaZilla (talk) 17:55, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'd prefer this taken to CFD then. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 18:37, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
