Spelling

[edit]

Why is this category title spelled "ionising" instead of "ionizing"? Wikipedia should pick a way to spell this word and then stick with it. Right now most articles in the general subject (such as the main article associated with this category) use "ionizing" so I think that is the spelling that should be used here. Update: This style guide from the Institute of Physics (Britain) is very clear: "Use -ize,-izer,-ized,-izing,-ization endings, except for" and then they list a series of exceptions, with "ionize" not among the exceptions. The z usage is definitely standard in American English, and while the s usage may be common it Britain, it is not sanctioned by an authoritative scientific body. Therefore "ionizing" is correct and "ionising" is incorrect. My own problem right now is that I don't know the ramifications of making a wholesale change. but it needs to be done.
