Are these really all "people from Bangor, Gwynedd"?[edit]

I don't know if the person who created this category and has been diligently populating it is aware of the fact, but the principal maternity hospital for a wide area of north-west Wales just happens to be in Bangor. This means that at least half the population of a village up to 20 miles away from Bangor may have been born there - that is obviously not the same thing as being a "person from Bangor". It's where a person is brought up that counts, not which hospital maternity department they saw the light of day in! I seriously doubt if even as much as half a dozen of the 50 people included in this category would actually be referred to as "people from Bangor". I've removed a handful from the list whom I know for certain not to be "natives of Bangor". I've nothing against the place at all, but surely it would be laughable to put half the population of Gwynedd in the category? If you spend the first few days of your infant life in a maternity ward in Fooville but go on to spend the rest of your life in another place does that mean you are "from Fooville"? All the articles included in this category need careful scrutiny and in my opinion people should only be included if it can be proven that they were born and raised in the city; if not, their articles should be removed from it until that proof is provided. For the record, the ones I've removed thus far are: Betty Williams (politician) (Dyffryn Nantlle), Gwyneth Glyn (Llanarmon, Eifionydd), Gwynn ap Gwilym ‎(Machynlleth). Enaidmawr (talk) 23:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
