Abilene[edit]

I would point the editors and any conscientious researchers to Wikipedia's own song page about "Abilene" which indicates (even with the ubiquitous 'citation needed') that Bob Gibson was inspired by the Randolph Scott film "Abilene Town" the setting of which was Abilene Kansas.
