I'd like to revise this page to correspond to one of the existing indexing systems for cancers, such as National Library of Medicine MeSH or the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, 3rd Edition (ICD-O-3)

I prefer NLM because it is quite stable and readily available. On the other hand, its use of "neoplasms" could be confusing, and should probably be replaced with Cancer.

NLM subdivides Types of Cancers (Neoplasms) into

  • Cysts
  • Hamartoma
  • Neoplasms by Histologic Type
  • Neoplasms by Site
  • Neoplasms, Experimental
  • Neoplasms, Hormone-Dependent
  • Neoplasms, Multiple Primary
  • Neoplasms, Post-Traumatic
  • Neoplasms, Radiation-Induced
  • Neoplasms, Second Primary
  • Neoplastic Processes
  • Neoplastic Syndromes, Hereditary
  • Paraneoplastic Syndromes
  • Precancerous Conditions
  • Pregnancy Complications, Neoplastic
  • Tumor Virus Infections

While I agree that this category needs to be subdivided (especilly since I just moved a bunch from oncology) I think that the sytem you proposed will be too complicated for the average person. (Like my grandmother, when she investigates new and exciting cancers that she might have.)
How about something simpler like by major organ system involved (based on Category:Organs)? With a special subcat for benign tumors. Multi-organ cancers could be kept on the main page or put in several categories. Any objections?--DO11.10 21:42, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
