Central Pointe is a light rail station in South Salt Lake, Utah, in the United States, served by all three lines of the Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) TRAX light rail system. In December 2013, the station also became the western terminus for the S Line (formerly known as Sugar House Streetcar). The Transit Police (UTA's Police Department) has its offices adjacent to Central Pointe.
Description
The TRAX portion of the station is located at 221 West 2100 South and the streetcar portion is located at 193 West Utopia Avenue. Both portions are easily accessible from eastbound 2100 South,[Note 1] a major east-west corridor that marks the boundary between South Salt Lake and Salt Lake City. Both portions of the station are also accessible from South 300 East (south of West 2100 South), via West Utopia Avenue (West 2170 South). (West Utopia Avenue runs between [behind both] the Office Depot and the Glidden Paint Center.) The station has one island platform for TRAX and a separate side platform for the S Line streetcar. The S Line passenger side platform is located just southeast of the TRAX island platform and is situated east of both sets of TRAX tracks, but west of the single set of tracks for the S Line. It only accessible from the southern end of the TRAX platform. The station is the southern most station that is served by all three TRAX lines. Central Pointe opened for service on 4 December 1999 as part of the Blue Line, built in preparation for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Streetcar service began on 8 December 2013. The station has a free Park and Ride lot with about 57 parking spaces available,[1][Note 2] however, commuters are prohibited from parking in the adjoining shopping center lot. Five covered bicycle lockers are also located at the station, which must be rented from UTA in advance for a fee.[5] Two ticket machines are located on the platform that provide single-ride, round trip, and day passes, as well as family and discounted fare tickets. The vending machines are cash-only and provide change in dollar coins and quarters only.[6] The station is operated by Utah Transit Authority.
All of UTA's TRAX and FrontRunner trains and stations, streetcars and streetcar stops, and all fixed route buses are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to those with disabilities.[7] Signage at the stations, on the passenger platforms, and on the trains and streetcars clearly indicate accessibility options. Ramps on the passenger platform and assistance from the train operator may be necessary for wheelchair boarding on the Blue Line (weekdays only). (These ramps are not used on weekends or on the Red or Green Lines.) In accordance with the Utah Clean Air Act and UTA ordinance, "smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations".[8]
TRAX lines
The Blue Line connects with the Salt Lake Intermodal Hub (Salt Lake Central) in Downtown Salt Lake City on the north (with connections to Amtrak inter-city rail and FrontRunner commuter rail) and downtown Draper (Draper Town Center) on the south. The Red Line connects with the University of Utah (University Medical Center) on the northeast and the Daybreak Community in South Jordan (Daybreak Parkway) on the southwest. Both the Blue and Red lines connect with FrontRunner on the south at Murray Central. The Green Line connects the Salt Lake City International Airport on the northwest with West Valley City (West Valley Central) on the southwest, via Downtown Salt Lake City, to the northeast. The Green Line also connects with FrontRunner on the north at North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe.
This is the southernmost station to be serviced by all three TRAX lines, as the Green Line diverges immediately south of this station.
Streetcar
The S Line streetcar (UTA's first streetcar) began service at the station on 8 December 2013. It runs east from this station to connect with the business district of the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City. As of the end of 2013, the S Line extends as far as the Granite Block (at about 1100 East and 2200 South), but there are plans to extend it further, having it run north from the Granite Block along 1100 East to 1700 South (near Westminster College). The streetcar passenger platform is only accessible from the southern end of the TRAX platform.
While very similar to TRAX, the streetcar operates a much slower speed and more frequent stops. It also only one car, rather than a "train" of cars.

Notes
- ^ While the station is easily accessible from eastbound West 2100 South, it is not accessible from westbound West 2100 South. There is a possible left hand turn into the station from the westbound lanes, but its use is restricted to buses. Other vehicles attempting to make this left hand turn are subject to being cited by UTA and/or local police.
- ^ Recently UTA announced that beginning 1 July 2013 it will start a one year pilot program involving most of its TRAX and FrontRunner Park and Ride lots. The purpose of the new program is to make rider connections with the Salt Lake City International Airport more convenient by avoiding the need to park at the airport. The programs allows UTA patrons to park for an "unlimited amount of time" in the designated Park and Ride lots. In addition, UTA will allow free parking in all of its parking garages. Previous UTA policy limited parking to no more than 24 hours, except at its parking garages. As part of the year-long pilot program, "UTA will measure parking lot usage and monitor costs, maintenance requirements, impacts to snow removal and security issues before determining if the program will be extended." There are eight Park and Ride lots that are excluded from this test program and the 24-hour time limit will still apply to these lots. Central Point Station's lot is specifically not included in this test program.[4] Notwithstanding permission to park for extended periods in the applicable Park and Ride Lots, updated signage at the stations advises that the UTA Transit Police request that they be notified anytime a car is parked in one of the lots for more than seven days.
