Chilkur or Chilkoor[1] is a village and panchayat in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, India. It comes under Moinabad mandal. The popular Chilkur Balaji Temple and Mrugavani National Park are located here. Chilkur is a biggest and most populated village in Moinabad Mandal.

Chilkur village was established near 2500 years ago.[citation needed] It was under the rule of Mouryas, Shathavahanas, Gupta's, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, kakatiyas, Quthubshahis, Nizams. Its old name in inscriptions was " Chilukuru Puram ". Archeological department has done excavations in this village after 1948. So many old inscriptions were found and they have been moved to Golconda archeological museum.

According to these inscriptions in this village so many Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples, A rigid Fort were constructed. Invaders demolished and looted these temples. We can still see many temples like Chilkur Balaji Temple,Chenna Keshava, Mallikharjuna and fort pillars (Burjulu) in the village today. Nakareshwara Swamy ( Shiva) temple was constructed by Vemula wada chalukyas about 1500 years ago. It has the oldest construction style like Vemulawada Temple.


Chilkur Village used to be A Jaina Basadi in Shathavahana period.Kakathiyas built the chain link tanks and some temples and built a barriage on Muchukunda ( Musi) River... present day Gandipet lake. Beside Balaji Temple surround areas a island ( Pyata Gadda) is there in Gandipet lake. That area used to be a market in ancient times Diamonds and jewellery stones used to sell like vegetables.[citation needed]
