The coat of arms of Malawi is based on the earlier heraldic arms of Nyasaland. It is supported by a lion and a leopard, above a scroll reading "Unity and Freedom".

  1. On a wreath Or and Gules on water Barry wavy Azure and Argent in front of a sun rising Or an African fish eagle rising proper
  2. A Helmet Argent
  3. Mantling Gules and Or

(b) for arms-

  1. Per Fess Barry wavy Azure and Argent
  2. A Fess Gules a lion passant Or
  3. In base Sable a sun rising Or

(c) for the supporters-

  1. On the dexter side, a lion, and
  2. On the sinister side, a leopard both guardant
  3. Upon a compartment representing the Mulanje mountain proper
