Crash & Burn is the debut studio album by American R&B singer Traci Braxton. It was released on October 7, 2014, by eOne Music Entertainment and Soul World Entertainment. Background

In 2013, Braxton began her solo career, after signing with Entertainment One under eOne Music and Soul World Entertainment to released her debut album later titled Crash & Burn.[1] In 2013 Braxton, got her own radio show called The Traci Braxton show on the BLIS.F.M. radio and as she was able to promote her new music and album release.[2][3][4]

Upon its release, Crash & Burn received mixed reviews. Soultracks gave the album a favorable review, stating that "rash & Burn accomplishes the exact opposite, demonstrating to the world that just because Traci is the most low-key of the Braxton sisters doesn't mean that she has little to say. The middle Braxton daughter may be unsure about the fate of her marriage and have some catching up to do with Toni and Tamar as far as polish goes (less Auto-Tune would also be a good start), but one listen to the CD will exemplify the title track's lyrical mission statement, a message that Traci sings as if her very life depended on it: have success in the fullness of time, and with the right intentions, or it isn't truly success at all: "If I fall then let me fall, even if I crash and burn/I will be shooting for the stars, but if you bring me down to earth, it's all good." Recommended."[6]

AllMusic's Andy Kellman gave the album 3 stars out of 5, commenting that "Crash & Burn offers a decent assortment of adult-oriented R&B songs that explore heartbreak, romance, lust, and perseverance. While most of the songs are undoubtedly contemporary and sleek, not one of them comes off as an attempt to contend with releases from artists half Braxton's age. In fact, the lone guest appearance here comes from Raheem DeVaughn, an ideal collaborator for Braxton. Fans of mature R&B who can forgive considerable Auto-Tune usage should find plenty to like here."[5]

Singles

"Last Call" was released as the lead single from the album on July 15, 2014. Upon release, the song debuted on the US Adult R&B Songs chart at number 16 on October 4, 2014.[7] The official music video was released on September 8, 2014 featuring cameos from Toni Braxton, Trina Braxton and Tamar Braxton in the music video.[8]

A second single, "Perfect Time" was released in mid-2015[9] It was featured in season four of her series Braxton Family Values where she had a panic attack before performing it for radio industry programmers.[10]

Commercial performance

On October 25, 2014 "Crash & Burn" debuted at #108 on the Billboard Hot 200 with sales of 4,000 in its first week.[11] The album also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart, #11 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and #18 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.[12][13][14]
