Early life

Reynolds, seventh of nine children, was born on July 14, 1987 in Las Vegas to Ronald and Christene Reynolds. Both are natives of Nevada, and Dan is a 4th generation Nevadan.

Career

Imagine Dragons (2008–present)

While in college at BYU, Reynolds recruited Wayne Sermon to form the band. [2] Bassist Ben McKee joined the band in Las Vegas and drummer Daniel Platzman, also a friend of Wayne's from Berklee College of Music, finalized the group. The band relocated to Las Vegas, where they caught their first big break when Train's frontman fell sick just prior to the Bite of Las Vegas Festival 2010. Imagine Dragons were called to fill in and performed to a crowd of more than 26,000 people.[3] Local accolades including "Best CD of 2011" (Las Vegas SEVEN Magazine),[4] "Best Local Indie Band 2010" (Las Vegas Weekly),[5] "Las Vegas' Newest Must See Live Act" (Las Vegas CityLife),[6] Vegas Music Summit Headliner 2010,[7] and more sent the band on a positive trajectory. In November 2011 they signed with Interscope Records and began working with GRAMMY award winning producer Alex da Kid.[8]

In 2012 their debut album Night Visions brought the band mainstream success. It reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and United Kingdom Albums charts and is certified gold in the USA, CAN, SWE, and NOR as of February 2013. Single "It's Time" became the band's first single reaching #15 Billboard Hot 100 and certified platinum by the RIAA and MC gold by the ARIA. Second single Radioactive reached #1 on the Billboard Alternative songs chart, Billboard Rock songs chart, Norwegian Singles chart, and #7 Billboard Hot 100. Three singles from the album have charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and four singles have charted on the UK Top 40. Imagine Dragons have consequently performed live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Skavlan, The Late Show with David Letterman, and MTV.[9][10][11] MTV chose the band as its MTV Push Artist both in the USA and internationally.[12] Billboard Magazine has listed the band as one of "2012's Brightest New Stars".[13] Their album made the highest debut for a new rock band in six years (since 2006). Single "It's Time" holds the 2012 record for most weeks on the top 10 alternative charts with 32 consecutive weeks.

Reynolds was invited to perform "Jumper" with Third Eye Blind at a concert in 2012.

He has a reputation as a compulsive songwriter who writes hundreds of songs and regularly spends upwards of 4–6 hours a day practicing.[6][14][15]

Dan Reynolds

On December 1st, 2012 a group of fans submitted an application to Congress titled "Dan Reynolds" hoping for it to become a National Holiday. It still has yet to be reviewed.

Egyptian (2010-present)

Invited to perform an opening set for Nico Vega, Reynolds met Aja Volkman in 2010. He invited her to help him finish some demos he was working on.[16][17][18][19] The two began a collaborative process which they titled Egyptian.[17] They recorded, produced, and released independently a four track eponymous EP digitally.[20][21] They later then got married on March 5th, 2011.

They have performed this material once at the M Resort in Las Vegas.[22]
