Career highlights and awards

Daniel James Dillon (born 19 March 1986) is an Australian professional basketball player for Paris Basketball of the LNB Pro B. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Dillon has enjoyed a successful career both in Australia and overseas. Following a three-year stint in the NBL, Dillon carved out an impressive career in Europe with CSM U Oradea in Romania and with PGE Turów Zgorzelec in Poland. In 2015–16, Dillon had a standout season with Turów, averaging 16.3 points and 5.7 assists for the season. Dillon then relocated to Japan in 2016, where he spent the 2016–17 season with the Hiroshima Dragonflies.

High school career

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Dillon moved to the United States for his senior year of high school, where he attended North Laurel in London, Kentucky. In 2003–04, he averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists per game for coach Kenny Woods.[1]

College career

Dillon played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats from 2004 to 2008, where he played sparingly throughout his career for coach Lute Olson. As a freshman in 2004–05, he scored a total of 24 points in 23 games.[1]

As a sophomore in 2005–06, Dillon was one of Arizona's best defensive players and was considered by coach Olson as one of Arizona's most improved players. In 31 games, he averaged 1.5 points per game.[1]

As a junior in 2006–07, Dillon was named Arizona's Best Defensive Player by a vote of his teammates. In 29 games, he averaged 1.9 points per game.[1]

As a senior in 2007–08, Dillon's minutes and production increased as his defensive presence consistently helped the Wildcats' perimeter rotation. In 30 games, he averaged 2.0 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.[1][2]

Professional career

After graduating from Arizona, Dillon joined the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2008 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.[3] Following his stint with the Bucks, Dillon returned to Australia and signed with the South Dragons as a development player for the 2008–09 NBL season. He managed 12 games throughout the season for a Dragons team that went on to win the NBL Championship. However, the Dragons folded in May 2009, leaving Dillon without a club for the 2009–10 season. In 2009 and 2010, Dillon played in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) for the Sandringham Sabres, earning SEABL Youth Player of the Year honours in 2010.

In June 2010, Dillon signed with the Cairns Taipans for the 2010–11 NBL season.[4][5] He and teammates Ayinde Ubaka and Ron Dorsey helped guide the Taipans to their first ever NBL Grand Final series that season, where they were defeated by the New Zealand Breakers 2–1. In March 2011, he signed with the Waverley Falcons of the Big V State Championship division,[6] going on to help the Falcons win the championship.

In May 2011, Dillon signed with the Melbourne Tigers.[7] After initially agreeing to terms to stay at the Taipans, Dillon signed a three-year deal with his hometown team, something he says wasn't an easy decision.[8] However, after a tumultuous 2011–12 season for the Tigers,[9] Dillon parted ways with the club on 26 April 2012. Dillon's agent approached the club seeking a release, which the club approved.[10][11] He then re-joined the Waverley Falcons for the 2012 season.

In September 2012, Dillon signed with CSM Oradea of Romania for the 2012–13 season.[12] Dillon remained with the club for the 2013–14 season and was subsequently named a Liga Națională All-Star. On 21 July 2014, he re-signed with CSM Oradea for the 2014–15 season.[13] He again earned league All-Star honours in 2014–15 and averaged 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 26 league games.

In August 2015, Dillon signed with PGE Turów Zgorzelec of the Polish Basketball League.[14] In 32 league games for Turów in 2015–16, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. He also averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.5 steals in six FIBA EuroCup Challenge games.

In August 2016, Dillon signed with the Hiroshima Dragonflies of the Japanese B.League.[15] In 63 games for Hiroshima, he averaged 11.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

On 16 June 2017, Dillon signed with the Kilsyth Cobras for the rest of the 2017 SEABL season.[16] Six days later, he signed with Melbourne United for the 2017–18 NBL season.[17] However, on 10 July 2017, he was ruled out for six to eight months after suffering an achilles injury two days earlier playing for Kilsyth.[18] He was a member of Melbourne's championship-winning team in March 2018. In April 2018, he joined the Waverley Falcons of the Big V.[19]

In August 2018, Dillon signed with Paris Basketball of the LNB Pro B.[20]
