Storyline

David Chow was a savvy political operative who arrived in Genoa City to avenge the murder of his former fiancée, Carmen Mesta (Marisa Ramirez). He quickly zeroed in on Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) as the chief suspect in Carmen's murder. He had a tape of an angry confrontation between Dru and Carmen, which he released to the press, putting Dru's name at the top of the suspect list. Drucilla was angry with Carmen for her involvement with her husband, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). David waged an ugly campaign to drive Dru crazy by hiring Carmen's look-alike cousin, Ines, to appear around town and haunt Drucilla. After Jana Hawkes (Emily O'Brien) confessed to killing Carmen, David and Ines came to Dru's competency hearing to prove her sanity.

Meanwhile, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) made David a lucrative offer to work on Jack Abbott's (Peter Bergman) Wisconsin state senate campaign. Then, David released a video of Jack's opposition, Victor's then-wife Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), stripping in order to make her look bad to the public. Jack and Victor then fired David. Nikki saw this move as an opportunity to get David to work for her, and she then had two campaign managers in the forms of David and Karen Taylor (Nia Peeples). Working with Nikki, David got to know her better, and he continued to support her, especially after her son, Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow), got hurt by David. In addition, Victor was out of town looking for his estranged son, Victor Newman, Jr. (Michael Muhney). On one occasion, Nikki and David kissed, unaware that Jack and Nick's then-wives, Sharon Abbott (Sharon Case) and Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford), had set up a video camera to record the kiss.

Victor soon discovered the scandal on the Internet. The kiss added to Victor and Nikki’s marital problems, and it damaged Nikki's senate campaign. She narrowly lost the election to Jack Abbot, but she continued to keep contact with David after the loss. She hired him to work for her at her company, N.V.P.. Nikki and Victor were brought together when Nicholas was found to be alive and an accident left their pregnant daughter, Victoria Newman Hellstrom (Amelia Heinle), in a coma. Nikki insisted that she and David end their relationship, but the pair could not keep away from each other; the two were soon engaged. After Nikki's separation from Victor, she lost her company in the divorce settlement. Then, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) asked Nikki to take over a subsidiary of her company, Chancellor Industries. Soon enough, Nikki and David were co-CEOs of Jabot Cosmetics.

When Nikki and David began to grow closer, Victor warned his estranged wife of David's past. David was married three times; he was left a widower twice, and he divorced his third wife after his affair with Carmen Mesta was outed. Both of his deceased wives were extremely wealthy, and Victor thought that David was after Nikki's money. Nikki didn't listen to Victor, and she and David continued to explore their relationship. Around the same time that David became co-CEO of Jabot Cosmetics with Nikki, a man named Walter Palin arrived in Genoa City. Walter was a loan shark, who came to Genoa City so David could pay off his debt to him. Walter was the only person who knew David's real identity, "Clark". After getting into a fist-fight with Walter, David had to tell a shocked Nikki the truth about his gambling problem and debt to Walter. Nikki chose to pay off David's debt to Walter of $250,000. In addition, she tried to get David professional help for his gambling addiction, which he refused. He insisted he would solve his problems on his own. Instead, Jabot's COO Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) set David up to relapse into his addiction with the help of Skye Lockhart (Laura Stone). Brad didn't think David was worthy of the title of co-CEO, and Skye helped him prove his point by taking most of David's money when he lost numerous poker games to her.

Meanwhile, Victor became engaged to the much younger Sabrina Costelana (Raya Meddine), which made Nikki extremely jealous. She and David decided to elope in Mexico in 2008 in an attempt to one-up Victor. Nikki's friend and detective, Paul Williams (Doug Davidson), investigated David's previous marriages more thoroughly. As part of his investigation, Paul flew to Bermuda to meet with David's third wife, Elizabeth "Bitsy" Hartford, who shared her suspicions about David. His previous wives, both wealthy women, had met with untimely, suspicious ends. She told Paul that David got away with killing his first wife, Janelle, by claiming that she had committed suicide after he cheated on her. Once back in Genoa City, Paul met with Mina King, the daughter of David's second wife, Angela Perkins. Mina, convinced that David murdered Angela, told Paul that David convinced Angela to cut her out of the will entirely, leaving David the sole beneficiary. She also believed that David cut the breaks in her mother's car, causing her fatal car accident. Paul later confronted David with this information, but David denied the allegation, stating that Mina was cut from the will due to her drug addiction. Eventually, David had no choice but to tell Nikki about Paul's investigation and the suspicious deaths of his ex-wives.

David explained how he had met Janelle in college. Together, David and Janelle traveled the world on humanitarian missions. He told Nikki that Janelle became paranoid and had trouble sleeping. Eventually, Janelle died due to an overdose of sleeping pills. Fortunately for David, he was never charged for her murder, although the accusation that he had anything to do with it has left him scarred. According to David, his second wife, Angela, was a hedonist who loved fast cars and flying. During their marriage, David's gambling addiction was out of control, and the couple fought often. One night during a heated argument, Angela stormed out and, unfortunately, she fatally drove her car into a telephone pole. David also mentioned Mina, who accused David of murdering her mother at her funeral. David then revealed how he met his third wife, Elizabeth. David told Nikki that Bitsy suffered from extreme paranoia. She thought he was having an affair, which was, in fact, true. At the end of his third marriage, David had an affair with Carmen Mesta. In addition, Bitsy also accused him of killing his ex-wives, which forced David to divorce her. Nikki seemed to accept David's explanation of his shady past.

Meanwhile, Brad continued to feed David's gambling addiction, and his debts began to pile up again. He went as far as to pawn a watch that Nikki gave him as a wedding present. His gambling habits continued to escalate; finally, he demanded a divorce from Nikki because he feared that he would gamble away her money. Still, David begged Nikki to take him back the next day. Nikki vowed not to give up on David, but Paul continued to search into his past. He soon discovered that David, born Angelo Sarafini, was a mobster hit man for Walter Palin, also known as Tony Amato. David, acting on Walter's behalf, was involved in the death of Ji Min Kim. It was also revealed a few weeks later that Mina King died under suspicious circumstances. Once Nikki learned of David's mobster past, she told him that she was going to divorce him right after the annual Charity Gala.

At the Charity Gala, Nikki and David appeared to be a happy married couple. In reality, David was spiking Nikki's drinks with dangerous amounts of morphine. Luckily, she was rescued by Paul and fellow detective, J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill). Nikki was taken to the hospital just in time. David decided to leave the Charity Gala, and he met Sabrina outside while they waited for their respective limousines. Sabrina insisted that they ride in the same car because she didn't feel well. David noticed that their driver was not the one who had dropped them off. While in the limo together, a car drove the limousine off the road. The driver was killed instantly, and both David and Sabrina were seriously injured. When Victor arrived on the scene, he thought that the Mrs. Newman in peril was Nikki. He soon realized that the paramedics were referring to Sabrina. As the medics tried to revive him, Victor demanded to know why David was with Sabrina. He never got his answer, and David soon died at the scene. Later at the hospital, it was revealed that Sabrina was pregnant. She, too, tragically died due to her injuries in 2008. Walter Palin was responsible for the accident, and he was the culprit who hired a successful hit on both Sabrina and David.

After his death, David was officially connected to the murders of Ji Min Kim and Skye Lockhart. Kim had borrowed money from Walter Palin, but he backed out of the deal after he learned that Walter was involved with the mob. Walter then hired a hit on Kim, which David fulfilled. David was also accused of killing Skye Lockhart and burying her body under the floorboards of the Newman stables. This allegation was later proven false when Skye returned to Genoa City several years later, revealing that she faked her own death.
