Down St Mary is a small village and civil parish off the A377 in Mid Devon in the English county of Devon. It has a population of 316.[1]

The small village has had several notable residents who wish to remain anonymous except two, Anthony Martin, a local government officer, who was three times a series champion on the British game show Fifteen to One. [citation needed]and David Corfield an Approved Driving Instructor and notable Road Safety Champion.

Occasionally - usually every seventh Tuesday – local resident and infamous badger basher, Sir Richard ‘Hodgy’ Hodgson will host an informal DJ set on the green. Richard calls these events ‘getting greened on the green.’ They are usually accompanied by an excess of marijuana, and an exclusive playlist of Prince and Dolly Parton. The event has gained popularity within the small village, especially with the older residents.

Sometimes at the end of the DJ set, Richard’s partner - Jessica Sey - will start to shout intoxicatedly at passing cars. To this day no-one knows why.
