The A2212 is an A-road in south-east London. It runs between the A20 Eltham Road in Lee, to the A21 Tweedy Road in Bromley, via Hither Green, Grove Park and Sundridge Park. It cuts through the A205 St Mildred's Road in Eltham.

The road begins at a crossroads in Lee, with the A20 extending eastward towards Lewisham and New Cross, and westward to Kidbrooke and Eltham; while the B212 heads north towards Blackheath and Shooters Hill.
Northern Parade of shops
[edit]Meanwhile, the A2212 travels south, along Burnt Ash Hill, and immediately passes a Sainsbury's, with an on-site car park [3], as well as a parade of shops, which includes:

Housing estate: Taunton Road to Upwood Road
[edit]It then passes junctions with Taunton Road, Leegate, Effingham Road, Handen Road, Dorville Road, Micheldever Road, Southbrook Road, and Upwood Road, before Burnt Ash Road becomes Burnt Ash Hill. During this section, the A2212 takes Burnt Ash Road you past some truly remarkable structures on either side of the road. On our right, majestic Victorian houses form part of the Lee Manor Conservation Area, offering a glimpse into the past with their grandiose and ornate architecture. Meanwhile, on our left, post-war houses are a reminder of the area's history, with their simple and functional designs. Both offer a unique insight into the history of this area, making the trip down Burnt Ash Road a fascinating journey through time.

During this section, the ex-B212 has junctions with Glenmere Road and Holme Lacey Road. The shop named The Kitchen SE12 is the place where Murder of Jimmy Mizen was tragically killed by Jake Fahri on 10 May 2008. (for mprre see history section)
Housing estate: Woodyates Road to St. Mildreds Road
[edit]The A2212 then passes junctions with Kimbolton Close, Woodstock Court, before it meets the A205 South Circular Road (St. Mildred's Road + Westhorne Avenue). This is the only major junction (A road) that the A2212 meets along its 3.6 miles (5.8 km) journey, except the terminus junctions (A20 and A21).
Unclassified section
[edit]Burnt Ash Hill continues as an unclassified road for roughly 0.8 miles (1.3 km) from St. Mildred's Road/Westhorne Avenue, to Coopers Lane, via junctions with Horncastle Road, Ratcliffe Close, Winn Road, Farmcote Road, Ashwater Road, Senlac Road, Heather Road, Kingsand Road and Exford Road. From the end of the road, Marvels Lane takes you to Chinbrook, the B226 and Grove Park Cemetery, whilst Somertrees Avenue takes you to Grove Park district centre.
A2212 + A205 multiplex
[edit]Meanwhile, the A2212 multiplexes with the A205 Saint Mildreds Road (westbound) for approximately 75 yards (70 metres), before the A2212 turns left to become Baring Road.

[edit]The A2212 is the only road in the A22xx road numbering series that runs in an outer London Borough (the London Borough of Bromley).
History

The A21 was originally a main road that ran the entire length of Lewisham High Street. Along the northern end of this main street, there was an A-road known as the A2212 that ran parallel to it, connecting with the A20. It is unclear why this road was classified in this way, as it doesn't really provide a shortcut. It may have been to take traffic away from the High Street, making it easier for pedestrians to move around. This A2212 road was known as Lewis Grove, and was a relatively short stretch of road, only a few blocks in length. However, it did provide a convenient alternative to the High Street, offering a quieter route and avoiding the hustle and bustle of the main road.
The A2212 is believed to have become a spur of the A21 in its early days, as the number was reused when the southern end of the B212 was given A-road status, which is thought to have occurred in 1935. After the building of Molesworth Street, the A21 was rerouted away from Lewisham High Street, and the former A2212 was then declassified. At present, this road is only open for southbound traffic. The A2212 is a key part of the local road network, and is important for connecting Lewisham High Street with the surrounding areas. It has been used for many years, and is a great example of how the road network changes and adapts to meet the needs of the local community.

[edit]The original designation of the current route was an extended version of the B212. This means that you could use the B212 road from Vanbrugh Park in Greenwich, to the outskirts of Bromley on the A21 Tweedy Road, via Blackheath, Lee, Grove Park and Sundridge Park.

Railway transport
[edit]There are four railway stations and three railway lines near the A2212 road. Lee [23] and Grove park [24] railway stations have their main entrance on the road while those of Sundridge Park [25] and Bromley North [26] stations are 270 metres (300 yd) and 200 metres (220 yd) of the road, respectively; all four stations are located east of the road. Lee station the northernmost of these stations is on the Dartford loop line [27], here the A2212 passes under a railway bridge where the A2212's name changes from Burnt Ash Road to the north and Burnt Ash Hill to the South. Grove Park station is at the midpoint of the A2212 and is on the Southeast Main Line [28] and the Bromley North Line. [29]
