From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Professor A. Guadagnini is an Italian hydraulic engineer and academic known for his contributions to water engineering and environmental research.[1] He has been serving as a Full Professor of Hydraulic and Water Engineering at Politecnico di Milano since 2003,[1] and was appointed Vice Rector for Research at the same institution in 2023.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

A. Guadagnini was born on October 26, 1964, in Italy[1]. He pursued his higher education at Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics) in 1989.[2] He continued his studies at the same university and earned a Doctoral Degree in Hydraulic Engineering in 1993[2].

Career[2][edit]

Guadagnini began his academic career at Politecnico di Milano as an Assistant Professor of Hydraulic Engineering in 1992, progressing to Associate Professor in 1998 and attaining a full professorship in 2003. His academic appointments have included significant international engagements, such as visiting professorships at the University of Arizona[2], the Weizmann Institute of Science[2], and other prestigious institutions worldwide.

From 2017 to 2022[2], he served as the Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, overseeing a large staff of faculty and administrative personnel. He has played key roles in various European Union framework projects[1], including FP5-FP7[1] and H2020[1], contributing as a coordinator, deputy coordinator, and principal investigator.

Research[edit]

Professor Guadagnini's research primarily focuses on the qualitative and quantitative aspects of flow and transport processes across porous media, groundwater systems, and underground energy resources. He has published more than 200 papers in ISI-rated journals[2]. His research group is known for its diversity and significant contributions to groundwater hydrology.

Awards and Honors[edit]

Editorial and Advisory Roles[edit]

He currently serves as the Chief Executive Editor of the Journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences[6]and is an Associate Editor for the Journal Water Resources Research[1]. Additionally, he is actively involved in various international scientific committees and editorial boards, including PNAS NEXUS[1]and the International Society for Porous Media[1].

Personal Life[edit]

Professor Guadagnini resides in Milan, Italy, where he continues his research and teaching at Politecnico di Milano[1]. He maintains a detailed professional profile and research updates on his personal website at www.mipore.polimi.it[7].
