Daniel Budyka was born on May 25th 1994 and raised in the Cleveland area. He attended Fairview High School, where he developed a passion for sports, particularly soccer. Budyka graduated in 2012.
Personal Life
[edit]Daniel Budyka is a father, healthcare worker, and active cancer survivor. He resides in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, with his family. Budyka’s personal life took a significant turn in 2020 when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. This life-changing event occurred shortly before he learned he was expecting a son. Following his diagnosis, Budyka underwent a significant lifestyle transformation, losing nearly 100 pounds and dedicating himself to health advocacy and charitable work.
Charitable Activities and Advocacy
[edit]Inspired by his cancer diagnosis and his newfound appreciation for life, Budyka became actively involved in various charitable activities. In 2020, he participated in a sand volleyball tournament to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His passion for advocacy led him to the Piper’s Angels Foundation and The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis.
The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis
[edit]One of Budyka’s most notable contributions is his participation in The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis. This event involves an 80-mile paddling journey from the Bimini Islands in the Bahamas to Lake Worth, Florida. The event raises awareness and funds for cystic fibrosis, leveraging the therapeutic benefits of ocean salt water for those with the disease. Budyka has trained extensively for this challenge, often in the waters of Lake Erie, despite the inherent risks and challenges of open water paddling. Daniel participated as a Prone Paddler, where you lay on your stomach and use your arms to propel you forward.
Inspirations and Motivations
[edit]Daniel Budyka draws inspiration from his favorite artist, Jimmy Buffett, and his son, Lincoln. His journey in advocacy and charity is driven by a deep sense of responsibility to teach his children about kindness, perseverance, and overcoming barriers.
Legacy and Impact
[edit]Budyka’s efforts in raising awareness for health causes, particularly cystic fibrosis, have made a significant impact on the community. His story of resilience and dedication continues to inspire others to get involved in charitable activities and support meaningful causes. Budyka was awarded Crossing For Cystic Fibrosis “Most Inspiring Crusader” Award for 2024.
