Biography

Dr. Paris A. Fokaides is a notable academic and researcher in the field of sustainable energy technologies. Born on June 28, 1977, in Cyprus, Dr. Fokaides has made significant contributions through his work in academia, research, and consultancy.

Education

Dr. Fokaides holds a PhD in Process Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany (2009) and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece (2002).

Career

Dr. Paris A. Fokaides has held various academic and research positions across Europe. Since 2012, he has been at Frederick University, Cyprus, serving as Associate Professor and Senior Researcher, and founding the Sustainable Energy Research Group. From 2017, he has been a Chief Researcher at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania. Previously, he worked as a Research Associate at Karlsruhe University (2002-2007) and University of Cyprus (2008-2012). He founded Euphyia Tech Ltd in 2021, a spin-off focusing on smart and sustainable building assessment. He has also held visiting positions at TU Berlin (2020-2021) and the German University of Cairo (2018).

Research Work

Dr. Paris A. Fokaides has led and participated in numerous research and consultancy projects. He has been involved in over 30 research projects, coordinating three, with awarded grants totalling over €6 million. His consultancy work includes numerous public sector projects, coordinating 13, with awarded grants totalling over €500,000. His expertise spans sustainable energy systems, smart and sustainable buildings, and renewable energy technologies.

Teaching Activities

Dr. Paris A. Fokaides has an extensive teaching portfolio across several universities, including Frederick University, Kaunas University of Technology, and the University of Cyprus. He lectures in Energy, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Process Engineering. He coordinates the Master's program in Energy Engineering. He has supervised over 130 student projects and MSc theses, as well as three PhD graduates and several PhD candidates.

Dr. Paris A. Fokaides is actively involved in standardization, representing the Cyprus Standardization Organization (CYS) in various CEN committees. He is the convenor of CEN/TC 317/WG5 "Operational rating of energy performance of buildings" and contributes to multiple other working groups focused on data transmission, HVAC control equipment, and digital twins in the built environment. He was awarded the CEN-CENELEC Standards + Innovation Awards 2023, representing the D²EPC project, for its contribution to standardization.
