This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Faisal Anwar (Urdu: فیصل انورا) (b. 1970)[1] is a Pakistani Canadian creative technologist who specializes in public art and new media art, such as data art, generative AI, and hybrid art installations.[2]
Bio[edit]
Faisal Anwar was born in Murree, Pakistan.[3] He received a Bachelor of Design from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan (1996) and completed the Canadian Film Centre’s Habitat-LAB Interactive Arts Program (2004).[4] Founder of CultureLab and co-founder of Art Address, Anwar's projects critically engage with topics of climate change and sustainability, emerging economies, wellness and social change while fostering creative ideas and cross-cultural dialogue.[5]
Art Practice[edit]
Anwar's practice involves creating generative and experimental installations that transcend physical boundaries while bridging the gap between virtual and physical realms.[6] His work aims to connect individuals globally, seeking new perspectives to instigate social change.
According to Anwar's statement, he writes,
"My inquiry lies in the many forms of human engagement, finding and telling stories that emerge and evolve with the ever-changing forms of mediums of communications. For me It’s fascinating to live and work through the recent art movements and experience how technology is progressing especially in the past 2 decades. I believe we are going through a major shift across all disciplines and global cultures. Industries are merging and going through digital transformations. We are constantly evolving and exploring new ways to connect and reflect with the concerns of present times. I feel, it’s critical for us to ask new questions, engage, collaborate, experiment and reflect in ways that may shape our present and future."[7]
His digital installations have been presented at an array of art institutions and public spaces, including the Surrey Art Gallery (Vancouver),[8] the Aga Khan Museum (Toronto),[9] and many others across Canada and Pakistan.[10] Anwar served as the Curator of the Karachi Biennale 2022.[11]
