From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

History[edit]

A panel at GeekGirlCon in 2013

After listening to a panel called “Geek Girls Exist” at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010, a group of women were inspired to make a safe place for people to come and express their geeky personality, and find like-minded individuals.

Mission[edit]

GeekGirlCon aims to create an inclusive environment for women involved in "geek-related fields".[1] They hope to motivate members of the community to be proud of their quirky identities and examine how to thrive in male-dominated spheres.

Convention[edit]

Yearly conventions often feature diverse panelists and activities. Visitors can choose between video games, book talks, merchandise exhibitors, a DIY science zone, and cosplay competitions.[2] The most recent event took place on October 7th and 8th at the Seattle Conference Center.[3] It explores a variety of fandoms, hosts companies to speak about STEM-related employment opportunities, and author meet-and-greets.[4]
