The Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education (GLOBE) program was a tri-continental undergraduate exchange program and the predecessor of the current Tricontinental Exchange in Business and Leadership Education (TREBLE) program..... The program involved three universities, Copenhagen Business School, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and ran for 18 years. According to the program leadership, the GLOBE program aimed to offer varying international academic environments to participating students and providing an environment in which students could pursue an undergraduate business curriculum in multiple countries

Students of the program showed a large preference for professional services occupations after the program..

The program concluded in 2023 with the 18th “batch” being the last round of students to attend the program. The TREBLE program is largely considered the inheritor of the GLOBE program with similar academic structure

Academic Structure

The academic structure of the program involved exchange semesters at the three schools between the 3rd and 7th semesters depending on the originating university. The semesters would include a limited range of mandatory courses with the remaining academic credits being chosen by the individual student within certain requirements. Mandatory courses would be tailored to the program as in the case of the course “Marketing in China” and “China Business” being the two mandatory courses at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and designed for the students of the program

The Selection Process of Participants

The program used differing criteria for recruitment to the program based on the individual university. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill based its recruitment on admission into the Kenan Flagler Business School where students had to write additional documents and go through interviews to be admitted. The Chinese University of Hong Kong based their GLOBE cohort on additional application letters when new students were admitted to the university itself which made them the only university to allow for applications as early in the process. Copenhagen Business School restricted applications to students enrolled in the B.Sc. International Business program, where applications were solicited after half a year in the bachelor's degree program. These selections also included a mix of individual interviews and group interviews to determine the final selection of students.

GLOBE Alumni

The GLOBE program is associated with the GLOBE Alumni network which continues to exist. Mainly focused on pooling together the resources offered by GLOBE Alumni for GLOBE scholars, the group still provides support for TREBLE participants. The network organizes both mentorship programs and social events and functions as a hub and intermediary between the respective universities and the alumni of the program.
