The Hungarian Journal of African Studies is an interdisciplinary journal published by the Africa Research Centre at the University of Pécs. Launched in 2007, the journal is published in both English and Hungarian languages. Its issues examine affairs related to African societies, focusing on those linked to political science and international relations.
History
[edit]The Hungarian Journal of African Studies, which has been published continuously since 2007, issued case studies, interviews, book reviews, research reports and analyses from Hungarian and foreign professionals. The journal aims to help creating a detailed, wide, and unbiased picture of Africa through scientific papers and educational articles. It contributes to the progress of professional discourse regarding Africa in Hungary and Central Europe. As a long-term goal, it strives to become an internationally relevant and influential journal in the field of African Studies.
2013
[edit]Every Hungarian article received English abstracts from the first volume of the seventh year starting in 2013. A significant amount of the published articles covered the results of various case studies.
2018
[edit]Since 2018 every Hungarian issue of the journal has been accompanied by an issue published entirely in English in a bid to reach a wider audience and gain international recognition, which is one of the journal’s main objectives.
In 2019, the University of Pécs and the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen domestic African studies research by organizing research programs and thematic conferences both in Hungary and abroad. As part of the agreement, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has become the main sponsor and a strategic partner of the Hungarian Journal of African Studies.
2021
[edit]The journal published at least three English and Hungarian issues annually. In the same year, the Hungarian Journal of African Studies moved to the current web-page, which operates with OJS/PKP, and joined other scientific journals registered by the University of Pécs Library and Knowledge Center.
2023
[edit]The Hungarian Journal of African Studies received a grant to further develop the journal as part of an internal scientific tender of the University of Pécs. Thanks to this financial support, it is set to further consolidate its international recognition.
