History[edit]

Solidarity between Belgium and Hungary has been a long tradition. In fact, after the First World War, millions of unemployed Hungarians have been offered a job in Belgian mines. 6000 Hungarian refugees were granted asylum in Belgium after the repression of the Hungarian revolution of 1956. The European Union membership of Hungary helped strengthen the relationships between the two countries.
