Keanu Al Azhari (born 13 November 2007) is an Emirati racing driver based in Dubai. He finished third in the 2024 Formula 4 UAE Championship, and is set to compete in the 2024 F4 Spanish Championship with MP Motorsport.[1]

Career

[edit]

Karting

[edit]

Al Azhari has had a consistent karting career, but has not amassed any major karting titles in Europe.[2] However, in his home country he was able to secure the IAME X30 Junior title in the 2020-21 season. In the previous year Al Azhari finished runner up in the same category.[3]

Formula 4

[edit]

2023

[edit]

Al Azhari began his racing career in the 2023 Formula 4 UAE Championship. Prior to his debut, he won the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, and as a result winning a place in Spanish F4 with MP Motorsport.[4] In F4 UAE, he managed to finish in 7th place driving for the Yas Heat Racing Academy, picking up two podiums on the way to scoring 63 points in the championship.[5] He also finished 3rd in the rookie standings. Al Azhari then proceeded to move to Europe to compete in the 2023 F4 Spanish Championship. He impressed, finishing 9th in the championship and securing one pole position and one podium on the way.[6]

2024

[edit]

For 2024, it was announced that Al Azhari would be returning to the same teams that he was driving for in 2023, as well as in the same championships.[7] In F4 UAE, he managed to put himself into the title fight alongside Freddie Slater and Kean Nakamura-Berta, eventually finishing 3rd in what was one of the tightest title fights ever seen in the championship.[8] He then moved over to Europe, returning to MP Motorsport for the last two rounds of the Formula Winter Series. Al Azhari made his mark, winning once and securing two podiums as he finished 7th in the championship despite missing the first two rounds.[9] Al Azhari will be driving in the 2024 F4 Spanish Championship with MP Motorsport later this year.[1]

Prototype racing

[edit]

During his time in the UAE in 2024, he made his endurance racing debut, competing in the Dubai 24 Hour. He finished 36th driving for Mühlner Motorsport alongside teammates Vlad Lomko, Bryan Sircely and Gilles Vannelet. He is set to compete in Prototype Cup Germany with the same team later this season, driving Mühlner's LMP3 Duqueine M30 - D08.

Personal life

[edit]

Al Azhari's younger brother Adam currently competes in karting, and is set to compete against his brother with Spanish F4 rivals Tecnicar Motorsport.[10] Their father Karim is a multiple UAE karting champion.[11]
